Antique Japanese Meiji Period Bronze Mounted Tanto Dagger Mon Signature C1890



Antique japanese meiji period bronze mounted tanto dagger mon signature c1890. This is for an antique japanese meiji period bronze mounted tanto dagger, signed by the maker, circa 1890. The single egded steel blade, is decorated with a carved horimono on one side, depicting a flower within foliate scrolls, and with a japanese two character signature, carved in horimono to the other side. The bronze hilt and scabbard are profusely decorated with chased technique to depict flowers.
The scabbard has a foliate scroll form chape and locket, and the hilt also has two foliate scroll form fittings, and a mon on each side, which depicts three hollyhock leaves within a circle. This is the tokugawa clan mon, 'maruni-mitsubaaoi'.
This measures 274 mm in length. The blade length is 167 mm. The dagger weighs 139 grams.
