Japanese Sword Koto Wakazashi Signed TadamitsuThe sword dates to circa 1480-1500. At over 500 yeras of age, this wakazashi is in excellent condition. The blade has a few minor nicks which will be eliminated with a light polish. I have attempted to show the temper lines with the attached pictures. The cutting edge of the blade has a strong but straight temper which is consistant with the period. The back of the blade also carries a bold temper. Tadamitsu is known for the superior quality (cutting strength) of his blades. Although this blade has not been polished for over sixty years, the edge is incredibility sharp. There are no bends, grain openings or other problems with the blade, other than the combat strikes to the edge. The cutting edge of the blade si a full 20.0. Typical of bizen koto blades, the width is 1.0 at the habaki. Teh tsuba still some gold inlay. The ahbaki and seppa are copper and original. The saya has been refurbished. |
