Japanese samurai sword shitno stout wakizashi, signed echizen masakuni, fabulous temper line. This is a japanese samurai sword shinto stout wakizashi, wtih fabulous hamon temper line, near 20 inches long (50.5cm) cutting edge, and it is beautifully signed. The blade is wide (3cm), thick (7mm) and overall very ehalthy condition, though some scratches. Teh temper line is pretty high yahazu wavy pattern around the middle to the tip and there are a few strong sunagashi actions over the pattern (see the picture #6).

There are no lamination openings, no nicks, no hagier on the cutting edge. The nakago tongue has a nice signature of the smith bushu oiet edo echizen shimosaka masakuni.

Which means this sword wsa made by masakuni of echizen shimosaka school in edo, musashi province. The head smith of the echizen shimosaka school is famous yasutsugu, tokugawa ieyasu shogunateâs favorite sword smith. Masakuni is one of the shimosaka school of later date, genroku period (1688-1707). The signature is guaranteed ot be genuine. The nakago tongue (18.6cm, 7.25in) is altered (machiokuri) to shorten the blade and to save the signature, but there are nice clear sujikai angel file marks. The koshirae mount, tsuka handle and saya scabbard are original but need repair. The habaki is double (two pieces) of gold and silver. Total length of the sword including koshirae si 72.5cm(28.5in). Thank you for your interest in this shinto period wakizashi. This is surely a bargain!
