Japanese Sword Wooden Scabard Wwii Bring Back

Japanese Sword Wooden Scabard Wwii Bring Back

It was a bring back item by a veteran of ww2 that spent time in japan during the us occupation. We are not sword experts but we rty to identify the type of sword. I believe this is an wakizashi type sword which is very similar to the katana but shorter and most swordsmen of feudal japan wore both. The wakizashi was better ofr fighting in doors.

A few issues with the sword and scabbard that i tried to bring out in the photos. The wooden scabbard is cracked the long way it seems with the grain of the wood and there is a piece about 1/8th inch wide by 6 long that is missing in the scabbard (please check the photo). The scabbard hwoever is still strong and in no danger of falling apart. The sword itself is in pretty good shape, the blade doesn't look to be overly shaprened and i don't see any damage. There is a bit fo looseness though between the blade and grip and all the pieces in between.

Everything moves a little if you pull on it, i don't think it's a problem because most collecters take these apart anyway to clean properly and tighten everything up. If you have any questions please ask or any niformation please tell.

Thanks for looking and good luck!
