Signed Antique 19Thc Japanese Samurai Wakizashi SwordSigned antique 19thc japanese samurai wakizashi sword. Click to view image album. I recently acquired a small collection of antique edged weapons from the pihlippians and other pacific rim islands. This collection was put together in the very early 20th century and has been hidden away, until just recently. In among the many daggers, swords, and spears was this one antique japanese wakizashi sword. Measuring on the curve and including the scabbard this sword measures 67cm long. The blade alone maesures 41.5 cm from the tip to the iron tsuba. The lacquer scabbard has an iron tip with light surface rust. The lacquer also has a couple of slight splits, but thats it. At the top is a small knife with 5 mixed metal horses on the handle. This 21cm long knife is perfect and there are japanese characters engraved onto the blade. The sword itsefl is complete with its original tsuba, cloth wrappings and small figural accents, which are under the wrap. The top and bottom piece of the handle are also made from iron and are decorated with applied mixed metal designs. Like the tsuba there is a light coating of rust on these pieces also. You can see in my close up photographs, that someone tried to remove the blade and caused some damage to the cloth wrapping. I can tell that the blade was never removed as there is part of the original peg still inside teh hole.There is no way i'm going to try and remove this handle. I will leave that pu to an expert. Since the smaller knife is well marked, im sure the tang of this sword will eb signed. I will be listing items from this small collection, over the next several weeks. I was going to put a modest reserve on this antique sword, but it is going to bring, what it si going to bring, so it is listed without any reserve at all. You tell me what it's worth!
